چکیده

Marker enzymes such as acid phosphatase(ACP), alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and aspartate transaminase(AST) levels were estimated in the serum of 60 fibroid patients and 60 non-fibroid patients from UTH, Ado-Ekiti . The age, weight and height of the patients were also considered. Results obtained showed a significant increase in the level of ACP (12.15±6.02μ/L), significant decrease in AST (10.24±3.10μ/L) level, and no significant difference was recorded in ALP (14.99±2.20μ/L) level when compared to the control (10.10±6.15μ/L), (12.40±3.11μ/L) and (15.52±1.30μ/L) respectively. Significant increase in both the age and weight of fibroid patients were also observed which could be related to the etiology of fibroid while height (not significant) may not be related to fibroid. However, this study showed that the activity of ALP does not change in fibroid cases while there are changes in the activities of both ACP and AST.

I-46: Radiofrequency Ablation of Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are benign solid tumors that are present in the majority of women. While often asymptomatic, fibroids can result in abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pressure, pain, subfertility, dyspareunia and other symptoms. Submucous and intramural fibroids are most associated with heavy menstrual bleeding; subserosal fibroids are more often innocuous unless sufficiently large so as to con...

Effect of Helicteres isora Bark Extract on Protein Metabolism and Marker Enzymes in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

The present study investigated the possible protective effect of Helicteres isora (Sterculiaceae) bark extracts on certain biochemical markers in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes in rats. STZ treatment (60 mg/kg/i.p) caused a hyperglycemic state that led to various physiological and biochemical alterations. Blood levels of glucose, urea, uric acid and creatinine, plasma levels of albumin a...
